Sugar Minott‘s cover of ‘The Meditations‘ classic ‘Woman Is Like A Shadow‘ was released on Budget Records in 1976. His faster paced version soothes the soul, as well as complimenting the original. The record was produced by Clement ‘Coxsone’ Dodd, who produced most of his early work. Interestingly enough, the credits on this record were supposedly a sly dig at Channel One‘s producer Joseph ‘Jo Jo’ Hoo Kim, as at the time Channel One were Coxsone’s main rivals.
Sugar Minott was well known for covering songs with his signature style. One of his biggest ever hits was his cover of Michael Jackson’s song ‘We’ve Got A Good Thing Going‘, which was released on RCA in 1981. Quite randomly ‘Ricky’ from Eastenders also paid homage to this song with his own reggae version!
